Tools and Accessories You’ll Need

Before beginning, make sure you have the following tools and accessories ready:

  • Chisel
  • Phillips and flathead screwdrivers
  • Measuring tape
  • Drill with appropriate bits
  • Pocket door lock set including the lock body, faceplate, strike plate, trim plate, and screws

Step 1: Mark the Lock Installation Position

For the Lock Body:
Use a measuring tape to determine the approximate installation height (typically around 90cm or a comfortable hand level). Then, place the 1:1 drilling template included with the lock on the edge of the door. Use a pencil to trace the outline of the lock body slot.

For the Faceplate:
Our sliding pocket door lock has a backset of 60mm (2-⅜”). Use the template and instructions to mark the drilling holes on both sides of the door, ensuring accuracy and symmetry for the lock faceplate positioning.

Step 2: Cut Slots for the Lock Body and Faceplate

Use a drill to define the rough shape of the pocket, then clean and refine the slot with a chisel according to the measurements provided in the manual. Ensure the depth and width match the lock body to avoid a loose or overly tight fit.

Apply the same method for the faceplate slot: carefully chisel out both sides of the door according to the traced outlines and specified depth, so the plate fits snugly.

Step 3: Install the Lock Body and Faceplate

Install the Lock Body:
Insert the lock body into the chiseled pocket on the door edge and place the trim plate over it. Once aligned properly, secure it with the provided screws. The lock's face should sit flush with the door edge.
Our pocket door lock features an integrated pop-out pull at the bottom of the lock body — simply press the button to reveal it, making it both convenient and space-saving.

Install the Faceplate:
Be sure not to install it upside down. Our lock comes with different screw lengths and spindles for doors of varying thickness:

  • 25mm screws for 35mm thick doors
  • 35mm screws for 45mm thick doors
  • 40mm screws for 50mm thick doors

Choose the screw and spindle length based on your door's thickness. For privacy and locking functions, make sure to install the square spindle — the lock will not function without it.

Step 4: Install the Strike Plate on the Door Frame

Close the pocket door and mark where the latch contacts the door jamb. Open the door and use the 1:1 template to locate the strike plate position. Chisel a shallow recess in the door frame and insert the strike plate so it sits flush. Secure it with screws and ensure the latch aligns perfectly to guarantee functionality and security.

Step 5: Test and Fine-Tune

After installation, test the lock’s opening and closing mechanism. Ensure the latch aligns correctly with the strike plate, and the pull handle can be deployed easily. Adjust the screw tightness or component position if needed to achieve smooth performance.

Conclusion

Installing a pocket door lock not only improves space efficiency but also adds a clean, modern look and enhanced privacy. Whether for bathrooms, bedrooms, home offices, or any interior space, this type of lock is a practical and stylish upgrade.

Common FAQ:

1. Can non-professionals install it?
Answer: Yes. Installing a pocket door lock is not a difficult task. The main challenge lies in chiseling the correct hole into the door. But don’t worry—our instruction manual includes a 1:1 scale drilling guide. You can simply tape the guide to the door and trace the outline. This makes it easy to cut the correct lock hole.
Tip: Make sure the hole positions are properly aligned; otherwise, the lock may not be installed correctly.

2. Can it be installed on a hollow door?
Answer: No. Our sliding pocket door lock requires the lock body to be installed inside the top part of the door. A hollow door cannot securely hold the lock body, which will result in installation failure.

3. The size doesn't fit, I can’t install it.
Answer: Our pocket door lock is compatible with doors that are 35mm to 50mm thick.

  • If the door is thinner than 35mm, the strike plate cannot be fixed properly.

  • If the door is thicker than 50mm, the screws won’t be long enough, leading to installation failure.
